PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
When Belfast Area High School decided to dedicate space for its fine arts program, it added a locally funded 14,000 square foot addition to its existing school.Exposed beams and suspended lights inspire creativity in this two-story building, which houses classrooms for crafts, art, and sculpture as well as music rooms that utilize sound isolation.

ROLE:
While an associate with another firm, Ronald W. Rideout, PE, directly managed one detailer and one engineer and coordinated with the architect and mechanical engineer. Close coordination was required with the architect to bring to life his vision of exposed framing. The interior spaces featured open structural roof joists, lateral wind/seismic bracing, and circular ductwork located symmetrically between custom-designed long span steel joists.
