Ronald Rideout, PE
Principal Engineer
Ron has been providing quality civil engineering services for over 28 years. His passion has been the responsibility of a structural engineer to assure the safety of building structures. He has been Engineer of Record for essential facilities to include hospitals, emergency response training facilities and police departments. He has been an integral part of $50 million dollar design-build projects and has designed up to seven story building so far. Ron’s experiences are diverse. His interests in the building sciences has led him to work on projects with the responsibility of interpreting and complying with AASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, DEP and EPA standards. He has interacted and worked with members of the Fire Marshal’s Office and Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Scott Basso
CAD Designer / Future Transition Specialist
Scott has been keeping the community safe with nearly 30 years in corrections at the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently a corrections sergeant and shift supervisor responsible for staff and 170 inmates. This year, Scott decided to take advantage of several learning opportunities that would allow him to grow his current expertise in corrections by learning building design and real estate brokering. Scott joined Dirigo Building Science Engineers as a CAD Designer. Scott will facilitate opportunities designing commercial, industrial, and residential building projects and apply his real estate license by facilitating the sale of new and renovated building projects to out-of-state clients that are investing in Maine. The Transition Specialist position is evolving to meet societal needs that helps fill the gap between parole, probation, and integration into the workforce. Scott will ultimately oversee integrating former inmates and people with past substance use disorders back into the workforce by helping to identify educational opportunities and programs. Chip Bishop
Senior CADD Drafter / Machinist
Chip is a highly skilled Machinist and Drafter that has been in the industrial forest products and engineering services business for over 45 years. His experiences range from maintenance and inspection of complex paper machines to providing detailing of site and utilities plans for industrial, commercial, and educational projects. He has been providing intricate detailing services and has demonstrated to have a precise eye for 3D modeling of intricate parts using AutoCAD and Inventor. Chip has been involved in projects that are directly aligned with the building sciences in terms of processes, instrumentation and the mechanics that makes up running complex facilities to include creating mechanical, civil, piping, HVAC and structural drawings. His ability to provide high quality drawings will ensure that Dirigo BSE will be able to offer consistent libraries and standards for client projects for decades to come.
Ron and Chip worked together providing nearly all the former D &S Engineering work at Mid-South Engineering over the past few years. Ron quickly took to working with Chip and is learning the vast knowledge of products and services Chip and the staff of engineers and administrator, formally known as D &S Engineering, provided their clients of the Katahdin region. Ron and Chip resumed working together in February of 2020 and Chip has served to help guide the development of a business plan for Dirigo BSE, which is driven by the desire to work toward greater prosperity for the Katahdin region.
Chip and Ron are utilizing their knowledge and experiences at Dirigo BSE in the form of high-quality, simple, practical and cost-effective designs while working towards the establishment of building systems monitoring and facilities management as unique to the industry component to the building engineering services they provide. Josh Davis
Technical Sales and BIM Modeler
Josh began his career as a lead drafter and designer before moving into the telephone industry. In this industry, he worked on engineering and drafting projects to maximize internet speeds and efficiency through managing the pairs of cable in a copper cable wire. Josh focused in building the fiberoptic loop of southern Maine. He led crews in various projects with safety and efficiency. Josh also was responsible for maintaining outside plane construction to include pole line construction and maintenance. Josh then moved back to drafting and designing by furthering his knowledge of structural engineering and Revit. When Josh is designing, he maintains the belief that drawings have a direct impact on the project management of the work performed for clients. Josh drew on his drafting and designing knowledge and his industry experience to help develop the business plan for Dirigo BSE. Paul Hodge
Building Systems Developer
Paul is the quintessential jack of all trades, having spent his career in the construction industry developing a wide variety of skills including operation of all construction tools and machinery.
Whether working for himself or for others, Paul takes great pride in a job well done. His reliability and professionalism are top notch. And, because he has grown in construction trade knowledge by learning hands on, he appreciates all aspects of the final work product. He understands what goes into each step of building.
Throughout his career, Paul has worked on steel framed buildings and most recently modular-built buildings. He understands this industry and his knowledge goes well beyond that of your average contractor.

Peter L. Hutchins, PE (Ret.)
Industrial Engineer
Upon graduation from the University of Maine’s Mechanical Engineering program in 1974, Peter joined the Great Northern Paper Company (GNP). Over his 40-year career with GNP, Peter applied skilled project engineering and industrial maintenance expertise to the management of nearly $500 million in construction projects. Starting as a Junior Project Engineer and progressing to his ultimate promotion as Manager of Engineering and Projects, Peter has spent extensive time developing and executing major capital projects and maintenance programs at both of the former GNP facilities; notably, he designed and coordinated a full-scale upgrade to the East Millinocket site. His deep knowledge of each GNP site, expertise in project management, engineering, and team development, as well as his credentials in CADD and Lean Six Sigma make Peter a valuable asset to the redevelopment of the GNP site. Darrell L. Harrison
Applications Engineer / Mechanical Engineer
Darrell has a proven track record providing construction oversight to technically challenging and unique projects. He has the most recent experiences of overseeing the reroofing of 168,000 SF timber framed manufacturing facility. He has worked closely with Ron Rideout as on-site construction manager and owner representative. His most recent project required providing direction, scheduling and quality control for several crews ranging from 4 to 8 laborers, foreman and superintendents.
Dirigo Building Science Engineers will be utilizing all of Darrell’s talents as he will serve as our primary construction manager on demonstration projects using cross laminated timber (CLT), glulam and custom designed connections. He will also be working to design and develop the infrastructure needed for mass timber processes.

George Gallagher
Senior CAD/Revit Detailer, QA/QC Specialist
George is a highly skilled Drafter and QA/QA specialist that has been in the engineering services business for over 10 years. His experiences include electrical, mechanical, structural and civil drafting. George earned a degree in electrical and automation technology that gave him the skills to work with all aspects of electricity from basic residential electricity, AC/DC motors, and digital electronics to programming PLCs. For his senior project, he was part of a team that designed, built, and programmed an automated assembly line. George is a fully licensed and insured drone pilot providing professional aerial photography and video. George is a native of the Katahdin region and worked on design and layout of the Medway School athletic field restoration project. He firmly believes people need to be moving to the Katahdin region, not moving away from it. George’s vast experiences will allow him to work with maintenance and inspection operations of a CLT (cross-laminated timber) facility and CNC facilities that will be constructed throughout New England to keep up with the demands of CLT panel suppliers. Tammy Perry
Safety Resource Manager
Tammy brings to Dirigo BSE the experience necessary to implement, manage, and monitor safety programs that meet OSHA requirements. Tammy has been responsible to providing training on health-related topics to include hearing protection, respiratory protection, and personal protective equipment (PPE). She has taught modules for OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour training including PPE, health hazards in construction, powered-industrial trucks, work zone safety, and fire prevention. For all subjects, Tammy stays up-to-date on OSHA safety requirements and employees follow safety procedures. Although Tammy strives to keep employees and sites as safe as possible, she brings experience with worker compensation reporting should an event occur. Tammy’s safety experience extends beyond the training classroom as she worked hands-on in an industrial plant. Prior to this, Tammy worked in various positions as a graphic designer and writer, allowing her to pitch in with the website and other tasks to help Dirigo BSE thrive.
